Supporting the Next Generation of Spartans

For more than 30 years, the Alumni Association has recognized the special relationship that exists when different generations of the same family are represented at York College. During that time, more than 500 students have received Alumni Association Scholarships. 

The application period for this scholarship ends March 15, 2024.

Applying for the Alumni Association Scholarship

Criteria for Eligible Scholarship Applicants

Alumni Relative

All applicants must have an alumnus/alumna relative. This can be a parent, grandparent, sibling, or other blood relative. The only non-blood relatives that are valid for eligibility are spouses and stepparents.

Academics

All applicants must be enrolled in their first degree program and not seeking a second degree. Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 overall GPA. If you are an incoming first-year student for Fall 2024, this requirement will be waived, but an additional letter of recommendation from a high school teacher is required.

Recommendations

Along with a completed application, the alumni relative must write a letter of recommendation in support of the applicant. This letter can be submitted with the application or sent separately to alumni@ycp.edu.

Financial Aid

All applicants must complete the necessary forms for financial aid (FAFSA) through the Financial Aid Office to determine their financial need.

Apply Online

The Alumni Board is looking for a completed application that demonstrates a financial need, academic achievement, and school/community involvement. Applicants must meet the above criteria to be awarded a scholarship. In addition, it is the applicant’s responsibility to clearly convey the need for this scholarship. Candidates with incomplete applications will not be considered.

Additional application materials can be emailed to alumni@ycp.edu. This can include résumés, a list of co-curricular involvements and activities, etc. Please note that these materials are optional and are not required for your application to be considered complete.

Scholarships are awarded on a yearly basis, and you must reapply each year.

Apply as a First-Year StudentApply as a Current Student

All applicants must submit a letter of reference from their alumni relative. The reference letter can be just a few paragraphs long, describing the student's accomplishments, why he/she is deserving of an Alumni Association Scholarship, and including any information that isn't asked on the application.

Letters of reference can be emailed to the Office of Alumni Relations at alumni@ycp.eduPlease include the name of the student applying for the email and the name, class year, and email of the alumni relative.

If you have applied for the Alumni Association Scholarship in the past and already have a letter of reference on file with the Office of Alumni Relations, it is not required to submit another letter.

Scholarships will be awarded in early May.

Scholarship applications will be collected and reviewed by the York College Alumni Board until March 15, 2024. When final decisions have been made, all applicants will be notified via email in late April/early May 2024.

During the review process, the Alumni Board of Directors will determine the amount and number of scholarships being awarded based on the number of applications received and the financial need of the applicants.
