Who are Honors Community students?
The Honors Community is home to students from a wide range of majors, experiences, and backgrounds. Our fellows and scholars tackle projects in any imaginable area of interest, and each student brings their own unique perspective to the work.
Our community includes:
- Researchers who take on topics that make a difference in their professional and personal goals, as well as the world around them
- Entrepreneurial thinkers who use innovation and human-centered design to create ideas and solutions the world has never seen before
- Leaders who drive change on our campus and in our community
- Collaborators who work in teams to share unique skills, knowledge, and talents
- Doers and change-makers who apply classroom learning to real-world needs

Apply for a Fellowship or Scholarship Program
Most students in the Honors Community join their program at the start of their first year, with scholarships offered as part of the York College admissions process. Interested students should apply to the program of their choice before the stated application deadline.

Honors Community Benefits
Access unique opportunities as a member of the York College Honors Community.
Workshops and co-curricular programs will provide you with innovation, leadership, and teamwork skills through Design Thinking techniques.
Community-based courses and projects will provide you with the opportunity to use the principles and mindset of Design Thinking (human-centered design) to address real-world issues.
You will have the opportunity to apply for funding (and in some cases, a stipend) to support your innovative ideas and projects.
Student travel funding supports both domestic and global travel that advances student goals as well as the goals of the program, and which will enhance the learning available to all students in the Honors Community.
You will have access to the Graham Innovation Zone, a campus maker space where Honors Community students and their mentors develop co-curricular projects, build business ideas, and network with community leaders. This space offers cutting-edge technologies such as a 3-D printer and other emerging technologies, as well as many other innovation tools and supplies.
You will also have access to the College’s downtown Center for Community Engagement and Marketview Arts buildings.
You will have the opportunity to participate in field trips and retreats where you can work with your peers to experience new cultures, build new skills, and plan shared programs. Our Honors students report that these team-building events are among their most memorable College experiences, with off-site trips to some really intriguing destinations. The events are also co-created and co-facilitated by the Honors Students themselves!
College and community mentors help students to develop deep expertise in their areas of study and their future areas of work. You will be invited to networking events with individuals who can help jump start your brilliant career!
Members of our Honors Community will have the opportunity to take on leadership and project roles, and work with leaders of industry in York, in the Knowledge Park. Funds will be allocated for grant programs to support and facilitate community projects across the Scholars programs.
You will have the opportunity to attend special co-curricular workshops, events, and programming led by local and national experts to supplement your classroom learning.
You will have frequent opportunities to do social science research through the Institute for Social Healing, a multi-institutional consortium of area colleges devoted to trauma-informed care, and the Arthur J. Glatfelter Institute for Public Policy, which takes on policy research that affects the lives of all citizens.
Both Institutes operate out of the College’s Center for Community Engagement.
You will be provided opportunities to work with York College administrators to help further innovate the way we educate, working through the University Innovation Fellows program and the Center for Faculty Excellence.
You will be provided with leadership opportunities both at the College and within the community, allowing you to work side by side with proven leaders.
A Connected Community
Graham Center for Collaborative Innovation (GCCI)
The York College Honors Community is a key initiative of the Graham Center for Collaborative Innovation. The GCCI also supports the Knowledge Park and the Center for Faculty Excellence.
Through these initiatives, the GCCI provides resources for students, faculty, industry stakeholders, and community partners to collaborate on projects with real-world impact.
