Computer engineers draw upon mathematics, science and computer science to design computer or microprocessor-controlled devices, systems, and processes. At York College, we focus on embedded systems, which are customized, standalone systems under computer/microprocessor control. You’ll get to work right away with a first-year design project — learning by doing is how we approach education.
At York College, you’ll get intensive training in common programming languages including C/C++, Java, Python, Scheme and several others. Our program is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET, built on nationally-recognized standards, will give you all the experience, knowledge, and problem-solving skills to confidently apply for careers in the technical or scientific fields of computer science.
The Computer Science Minor is designed to augment the skills of students majoring in chemistry, mathematics, as well as those students outside of the Kinsley School of Engineering Science and Technology with inclination and strength in this area. Students can greatly broaden their post-graduate horizons through this minor, by adding computing facility to the proficiencies gained through their major program. A maximum of 9 credits from a student’s major can be used to fulfill the CS minor requirements.
The Continuous Improvement minor helps students develop business ready skills to eliminate wasteful and ‘non-value’ added activities in product and service process(es). Students will learn about the multiple tools and techniques commonly used in business(es) to improve quality through their engagement in real world projects. This minor prepares students for entry-level positions such as a quality supervisor, process analyst, continuous improvement supervisor.
Develop the knowledge and skills necessary to be successful in the music industry by learning hands-on in our state-of-the-art recording studio and through real-world experiences like internships, experiential assignments and projects. Creative Industries and Entrepreneurship graduates will be prepared to pursue careers in audio production, artist management, concert promotions, publishing, licensing, and marketing.
York College creative writing courses offer students a chance to develop their writing and imaginative skills under the direction of actively publishing faculty and a series of visiting writers. The creative writing workshop classroom provides students with a learning-by-doing setting, in which students are put in control of their education and the direction of their creative development.
A minor in Criminalistics allows students to explore a variety of areas of forensic science. Proper investigation, evidence collection, and scientific analysis are stressed. Laboratory courses provide students with a hands-on learning experience.
A bachelor’s degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice does more than prepare you for a future in law enforcement. You’ll learn about the causes of crime, as well as ways to help reduce law-breaking. You’ll explore ethical codes of behavior and the legal frameworks that guide professionals in this high-demand field. The Criminology and Criminal Justice program at York College is led by expert faculty with a variety of specializations. As a student, you’ll have the flexibility to focus on the areas that interest you most, including cybercrime or forensics.
The Associate of Science degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice is viewed as the first step toward earning a baccalaureate degree. Courses in this associate degree program fulfill many of the course requirements in the baccalaureate program. Beyond the required courses, students are allowed to select 18 credit hours of CCJ coursework of their choosing. As a result, students develop a broad understanding of the criminal justice system and criminal behavior.
A minor in Criminology and Criminal Justice provides students with an opportunity to study both the adult and juvenile justice systems. Additionally, the causes of crime and victimization are explored in a variety of courses. Students must earn a 2.0 or higher in all CCJ courses.
Critical thinking is the process of carefully examining an issue in order to come to a reasoned judgment based on a critical evaluation of relevant reasons. Mastering critical thinking is a core outcome of higher education and employers highly value the capacity to think critically, communicate clearly, and solve complex problems. Students who elect this minor will be challenged to master the basics of critical thinking and writing and then are given the option of pursuing one of two tracks focusing on either rhetoric, logic and critical thinking (the art of argument) or on the social and cultural dimensions of knowledge construction and constitution.
Cybersecurity is one of the fastest growing career fields in the country, and for good reason. The livelihood of today’s organizations — from private businesses to publicly traded companies, healthcare providers to government agencies — depends on their protection of digital information and prevention of cyberattacks.
In York College’s Cybersecurity Management program, you’ll combine your understanding of technology with skills in strategic communication and management. You’ll also develop insight into the origins of cyberthreat as you explore aspects of cybersecurity, including strategy, operational security, intelligence analysis, and criminal justice.
The Cybersecurity minor is designed for students who want data privacy and cybersecurity skills to supplement their major and/or career fields. This minor would be especially advantageous to students interested in information security, operational decision-making, and/or business intelligence.
Students don’t have to put away their dancing shoes when they enroll in college. There are many ways to stay active in dance on campus, including YCP’s Dance Minor. The dance minor is a combination of theory and practical dance, providing students with the knowledge and skills to create their own moves.
The Data Analytics Certificate program emphasizes critical thinking and teaches students to employ data to make better business decisions. After you get the immediate knowledge that you need, consider applying your earned credits toward the full degree when the time is right for you. Once you’ve finished your Data Analytics Certificate, you can “stack” the Certificate in Business Analytics and Big Data Certificate along with two courses: In Introduction to Data and the Capstone Project to receive your MS in Data Analytics.
The five courses of the Data Sciences minor augment a technical degree in Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics, or Engineering. They cultivate skill development in advanced analytics, artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, mathematics, and statistics. The formal application of these technical skills allows one to uncover insights hidden in an organization’s data and more soundly guide decision-making and strategic planning.
The Digital Art and Artificial Intelligence (DAAI) program is designed to equip students with the skills they need for careers in gaming, animation, and visual storytelling. Utilizing generative artificial intelligence and other digital programs as primary tools, students will express narratives visually through diverse mediums in gaming, animation, and narrative illustration.
